From the MD's desk

MD We are delighted to bring you yet another edition of our monthly newsletter. It has been a very exciting month at Ascenten with our expeditions into several thought-leadership conclaves focused on multidisciplinary engineering such as NASSCOM Engineering Summit 2012. That the global economy is primed for collaborative co-innovation is a key message that emerged at these summits.

Our interactions with luminaries from a wide range of engineering industries revealed that across the world there is an increasing thought to build ‘innovation’ as a platform – efforts are being made at forming collaborations with R&D focused engineering services partners. This is being achieved by making the process of co-innovation (frugal engineering) more affordable, scalable and sustainable.

As this phenomenon becomes more evident it fills our hearts with immense motivation, for Ascenten is founded with main focus firmly placed on R&D prowess. With a team of engineers who genuinely aspire to be innovators using their in-depth understanding of electronics, physical sciences, industrial processes and applied mathematics, we are ready to take on more formidable engineering challenges and remain eager to deliver through meticulous research.

Thank you and happy reading!

Higher Performance with Less Power: Multicore Technology
Gaurang Patel (Sr. Design Engineer, Ascenten)

Gaurang Patel Processing technology is in the midst of a technological revolution, and nothing illustrates that fact more effectively than the proliferation of mobile devices. Widespread device use cases such as HD video playback & gaming, steaming video and audio, multitasking, browsing the web on high-speed networks etc. are adding enormous challenges to the capabilities of current single core application processors.

Audio Equalizer – A Perspective on Digital Signal Processing
Bhavin Shiyani (Embedded Software Engineer, Ascenten)

Digital Signal Processing plays a key role in today’s world, where television, sound systems, cameras etc. are moved towards digital methods. Many such signal processing applications involve amplifying or attenuating only a small portion of a signal’s frequency spectrum, while leaving the remainder of the spectrum unaffected and one of such applications is digital audio equalizer.

Researchers Compare Multicore Programming Methodologies
Dave Wilson, Senior Editor, Vision Systems Design

Developers of image processing software can accelerate their applications by taking advantage of the latest multi-core processors. But with several software frameworks now available that enable them to do so, many programmers might be a little confused as to which approach might be the most effective.
